How to make a runeword

A runeword is made by inserting its runes, in order, into a normal or superior item whose socket count matches the number of runes exactly. Magic, rare and unique items or items that already have something socketed will not work, and each runeword only goes into certain item types. Every runeword page lists its rune order and the bases it can be made in.

Find runewords by weapon or armor

Switch between the Weapons and Armor tabs and search by runeword name, rune, item type or stat. Filter by sockets, base type and character level, and sort by required level or name to find what you can make right now.

New runewords in 3.0

Patch 3.0 added Authority, Void, Coven, Vigilance, Ritual. Turn on the New in 3.0 filter to see them together.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a runeword in D2R?

Insert the runes in the listed order into a normal or superior item of an allowed type with exactly as many sockets as the runeword has runes. Magic and rare items cannot become runewords.

What are the new runewords in D2R 3.0?

Patch 3.0 added Authority, Void, Coven, Vigilance, Ritual.

How do I upgrade runes in the Horadric Cube?

Eld through Thul take three of the rune below; Amn through Pul take three of the rune below plus a gem; Um through Zod take two of the rune below plus a gem. The Runes tab shows the exact gem for each rune.

Can I see only armor, shield or helm runewords?

Yes. Open the Armor tab and pick Body Armor, Helms or Shields in the base type filter to list only runewords for that slot.

Are ladder-only runewords marked?

Yes. Runewords that were ladder-only show the seasons on their badge, and the Ladder only filter lists them together.
